8 WILTON CRESCENT
This formed our 2nd project on the crescent and was a chance to evolve and improve on our previous designs. The whole house had been gutted and refitted out in the 1980's leaving a dearth of any genuine historical features. The construction was poor and the detailing pastiche Georgian. The mews house in particular was small and dark which led to the decision to demolish the vast majority of the existing fabric and start anew.
The creation of correctly proportioned and accurately detailed formal rooms in the existing house has been complimented with light, contemporary and spacious set or spaces beyond, flowing into the new mews and out onto a series of terraces. The pool hall receives generous daylight by way of a structural glass wedge that dictates the form of the link between the main house and mews, and is ultimately governed by the geometry of the crescent itself.
